Design and Build Quality: Solidly Premium
From the moment you pick it up, the Pixel 10 Pro XL feels like a premium device. The construction is very good—solid and beautiful. Its design, particularly the iconic camera bar, is more visually appealing than the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This phone looks and feels like the high-end device it is.
Software and Longevity: Unmatched Commitment
Choosing the Pixel means embracing the best version of Android, free from unnecessary clutter. The phone runs on a clean, snappy version of the OS with absolutely no bloatware. Furthermore, Google has made a monumental promise for the future: this phone comes with an industry-leading 7-year commitment to OS and security updates. If longevity is a priority, no other major phone can currently compete.
The Pixel Experience: Seamless Transition and Unique AI
Transferring from my previous Pixel was super smooth and easy, making the setup process painless. Once you're up and running, the true magic of the Pixel shines through its AI features that you simply can't find in other phones. These smart, seamlessly integrated tools (like advanced photo editing and on-the-fly translation) truly elevate the day-to-day user experience.
My decision to choose Android was also rooted in practicality. I appreciate the open nature of the ecosystem, which avoids the "containment model" of the iPhone. Copying files to and from my Windows PC is quick and hassle-free, a huge advantage over Apple’s more restrictive system. I chose Pixel over Samsung specifically to avoid bloatware, even though I genuinely enjoy Samsung DeX.
Camera Performance: Consistently Excellent
As expected from a Pixel, the camera is excellent, overall. It continues Google’s tradition of delivering phenomenal computational photography, capturing sharp detail and accurate colors in nearly any lighting condition. It's easily one of the best point-and-shoot experiences available.
The Major Caveat: Poor Battery Life
Unfortunately, the outstanding features are weighed down by the bad battery life. This is the phone's single most disappointing aspect. Despite taking extreme measures to conserve power, the battery life is subpar. Even with:
Non-essential background apps disabled.
Cellular data turned off (using Wi-Fi only at home).
Battery Saver mode enabled.
The phone still drains about 25-30% of its battery in just 24 hours while idling. For a flagship phone, this level of standby drain is unacceptable. It means you are constantly worrying about finding a charger.
Final Verdict:
The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL is a flagship with brilliant potential, offering a superior software commitment, a beautiful build, and exclusive AI features. However, the battery performance demands a significant compromise. If you value all-day, worry-free battery life, then please go with another phone. This device is best suited for those who prioritize the pure, smart Android experience and the 7-year software guarantee, and are always near a charging source.
So the cons:
1. The 5G WiFi card. Whenever I'm connected to a 5G WiFi it's like I have airplane mode on and pages take ages to load. 2.4G works crazy good tho.
2. Just kidding I only have 1 con.
Let's talk pros:
1. Battery, this battery is insane compared to my 6a. I got home with was playing on my phone for about 3hrs now and only went from 91% to 64%. The games I was playing we're a little intense and phone only got a little warm but not hot.
2. Lock screen: I currently have 2 fingerprints sent up and face recognition for work because I wear gloves. Despite the bad things I've heard about the face recognition I would have to disagree with those statements. Face recognition works really well with me and I love it. The fingerprints work great as well where my old phone had a hard time recognizing my fingers and consistency declined my finger but this phone there's no comparison and works crazy good.
3. Speed, of course this isn't a Samsung and the phone wasn't built for high CPU speed but despite that the phone's CPU works crazy good and you don't really need a faster phone anyways.
4. Display, the display is amazing and the colors and sharpness of everything is just so smooth I love it.
5. The camera, I am so impressed with this camera. If you're a creator then this phone is for you. The AI with the 12MP camera is just so powerful even tho some photos can come out odd after the AI enhancements are done.
Some Q&As
Is the phone worth it's value? I think so, with all the features and the years of guarantee updates just sounds so good to me. With all the pros as well makes this phone to me worth the price I paid.
How's the feel? It's new for me having a taller phone and with round edges like an iPhone but with all of that I think I really like the feel of the phone, the looks as well.
Features: Dude, I don't know where to start here. Magic cue, Gemini, merged emojis, and a crazy amount more features makes this phone fun and entertaining to use. If you get this phone and say it's boring then you're just not using the features correctly lol.
Battery life was my only concern but on average it lasts all day even with 5G connectivity turned on (something my Pixel 6 Pro was unable to do reliably). Only time I make sure I have a portable charger with me is when I go to a concert or somewhere I know I'm going to be using it pretty heavily. Coming from the Pixel 6 Pro, the heat under heavy load is also WAY better. It's everything you love about Pixel but just a bit more upgraded.
