The good:
- it works! As it says in the instructions, it's best used immediately after a bite, but the wonderful thing about it is that it still provides itch relief (albeit temporary) for old bites. If you use it early enough, it can prevent the swelling (and itch).
- I like this product way more than the Bug Bite Thing (that little suction/plunger device). The problem with the Bug Bite Thing is that you must use it very soon after being bitten. If you use it on a mosquito bite after your top layer of skin has already begun to heal, it just spreads the protein irritant under your skin and causes a much, much larger & unsightly welt. And, unfortunately, I usually cannot identify where, exactly, I've been bitten until it's too late. For that reason, my Bug Bite Thing largely collects dust in my medicine cabinet.
- It heats up quickly. I thought it might take a bit of time for it to heat up and deliver a dose, but it functions in seconds.
- it's FSA/HSA-eligible; that is, you can use your Flex/Health Spending Account to purchase it
- it uses AAA batteries, not some weird coin/disc batteries, and they even include a couple batteries to get you started.
- it's very small & portable. easily slips in your pocket.
The not-so-good
- there is pain involved. while you're pressing it against your skin for the 3 or 6 second treatment, it does have a bit of a stinging sensation (ironic, I know). it is unpleasant enough that I wouldn't use this on small children lest there be tears.
I did spring for the model that has a built-in light, but I probably could've/should've just saved a few bucks and skipped it. The light isn't all that bright, but I guess it may be helpful if you're using this thing when it's dark outside (which I haven't done).
I do one treatment on small bites and two on larger bites. It definitely works better if you use it soon after you get a bite, but it’s still effective even if you use it hours later. I’m not gonna lie - it’s not a pleasant feeling when using this device and I use it on the normal setting - but it’s worth 10 seconds of discomfort to completely eliminate itching.
I don’t know the science behind why this works, but it works like magic. I lost mine somewhere and immediately reordered because I can’t live without this.
This thing is great! The little bit of heat you feel when applying it is nothing compared to weeks of scratching and swelling for me.
I got stung by a wasp on my inner thigh about 4 inches above the knee and used it within two minutes after – I always know where it is – I never had such a painful bite before and it was night and I couldn’t see what kind of wasp it was, but we do have those mud wasps and they are crazy painful. Anyway, I applied the double heat (there’s a single heat and a double heat you get from pressing the button twice) about three times all around the sting. I never felt it again, and the next day it was flat as could be, just a 2 inch diameter of red. That in itself is worth the price.
I’ve also used it multiple times on mosquito bites as I won’t use any “OFF!” or any repellent other than herbal, which is not worth a whole lot anyway.
I’ve used it twice on spider bites – two years ago I got a horrible spider bite in my carbthat just weeped yellow liquid for weeks and weeks, it took almost 2 months to get over that. Just like the last sting, the two spider bites were perfectly flat the next day and I never felt them again. My sister had the same success with a wasp in Tennessee. I highly recommend this, it’s so much better than needing prednisone to reduce the inflammation/itch.
I’m so glad I found this! Now if someone would only find something that works this great for poison ivy! LOL
The device is lightweight and easy to carry — I keep it in my bag when I go outside. The only downside is that the heat can feel a bit strong on sensitive skin, but it lasts only a few seconds and is tolerable.

I found that the Beurer BR60 help reduce the swelling and the duration that the insect bite would last. Worked best for mosquito bites but I found it effective on flea bites as well.
I read the reviews and there are users that don't feel it at all and others who complain about it burning. I am in the latter camp. I definitely notice the heat and it does feel like a sting and that it might be so hot as to cause harm but it has never caused any issue and the itching subsides almost immediately and lasts for hours. I use the double press long setting as I find that works best for me.
I like the size of the BR60 as it is small enough to carry around and i would definitely buy one again if it breaks.
The gadget burns a little, so I’m not sure this would be great for little kids, but for me it’s FANTASTIC. I apply it twice to each bite, and the itching is gone. I can’t believe it! It’s almost like a miracle for me. I’ve dealt with this problem all of my life. My family has always been big into camping, fishing, and hiking all over the world, I grew up on a pond, and I’ve had horses all of my life. Lots of mosquitoes! One time in Canada on a camping trip, I counted 100 bites. In Virginia we basically lived on a swamp and spent many lovely hours hiking in the Shenandoah mountains. I now live on a small farm near a pond, and unless I spray repellant (which I hate,) I get soooo many bites. I wish I had this years ago!
I just changed the batteries that came with it today, and I bought it last year, so they’ve lasted months. I’ve used it all summer long. I hope this device will last a long time because it has made my life so much better. For me, it’s worth the very short burning sensation (again, I always use it twice on each bite) to stop the itching so that I don’t scratch the bite until bleeds and so I can sleep!
Honestly, I want to thank the inventor and maker of this device. It really has made my life so much better! I plan to buy one for my niece who is a mosquito magnet like I am as a gift. It’s crazy how much I use this thing and how grateful I am for it! Thank you!
I stumbled across the heated spoon trick recently, and I was desperate, so the next time I got bitten, I was just outside the house, and I tried it. It actually worked for both me and my son. However, carrying an electric kettle and a spoon out in the field isn't really feasible. So I got this nifty little item.
Unfortunately, for some bites, it does not seem to work very well, but I suspect that's because they aren't mosquito bites. When I have a confirmed mosquito bite, this item is amazing. I have only done the 3 second option because it's already hot before 3 s, and I'm worried about burns. Plus, the 3 s option is enough if it's a mosquito bite.
I just killed a blood sucking mosquito earlier today, and within a few minutes, I used this item, and it did try to swell up, but it wasn't itchy at all. Now, a few hours later, the swelling and the redness is gone. No itchiness.
I totally recommend this item. It's convenient, it's portable, it's easy to use. Plus, you don't smell of garlic or have sticky fingers from smearing some weird paste that only sort of works for a couple hours at most, and then you're stuck trying to use other home remedies for the next couple days. In addition to healing from the weeping wound that you've scratched open.
So just buy it.
23andme says I'm more likely to attract mosquitos and I do get bit a LOT unless I douse myself with DEET, yuck! Plus, I have super sensitive skin, that breaks out with satellite hives from even minor skin irritation. Add to that, I'm allergic to bug bites which swell up and itch for a week or more even with cortisone or calamine. So when I venture outside, well, I'm a hot mess, right quick. Lol
We just finished a cross country RV trip with plenty of opportunities to test out this big bite zapper on many, many mosquito bites for both me and my spouse. So glad I brought it! It was soooo nice not itching, or dealing with bug spray or anti itch goop all over me, and not smelling like Off the entire trip!
Most of the time the itching instantly goes away after one short press of this nifty device. With bigger bites or bites I don't catch right away (because I forget to put the device in my pocket before going outside), I sometimes have to do another short press or even a long press to get the itching to stop.
My husband prefers the long press but he doesn't have sensitive skin.
Once it stops the itching, it's like the bites never happened! My husband had identical results.
The only bites it hasn't worked so well on for us are a couple spider bites. It still reduced itching and discomfort with those bites though too, it just didn't entirely eliminate them.
The batteries have lasted several weeks even with regular use. It must automatically turn off after a while if you forget to turn it off. Sure love that! Haven't had to change batteries yet.
It's easy to tell when it's on, the switch displays green when on. And the active zap light is a bright blue semi-circle for a short press and a full circle for a long press so there's no confusion how long is going to zap you!
And, yes, it hurts when it zaps you, some places more than others, but instant relief from the itching is SO worth it to me. It's not even an issue for me.
It easily fits in a pocket. Has a nice sleek modern design and is easy to clean.
My only suggestion is I wish it had a way to attach it to a key chain or a lanyard so there's less chance of it falling out of a pocket or setting it down somewhere and misplacing it. It's that important to me!
I've had friends look at me weird when I use it in front of them the first few times but when they eventually get bit, they try it and it works for them too! And before you know it I'm sending them the Amazon link.
