That being said, I can't comment on how this keyboard rates against other similar or more "top of the line" models.
What I can say is that the feel of typing on this keyboard is so lush, I just want to type nonsense, or home economics typing practice mantras or my lifelong manifesto.
The key sound is bright, clicky, but in a throaty kind of way - again, I have nothing to compare this to other than the non-mechanical keyboards I've been using for ages. This tool has the feel of an in-between non-mechanical keyboard and an old school typewriter.
The keyboard came with a quick start guide with some easy to remember shortcuts to change the keyboard lighting scenarios - super cute - I AM OBSESSED with that.
At first blush, I think that any charging or firmware updates require this baby to be wired to ones computing machine. Right now, I've been using her wirelessly and flawless, just flawless experience.
One thing of note to older typists - the board is much smaller (as in reduced length) than what you may be used to, I am still getting used to having my hands a bit closer together when typing, but soon I will be back to typing uncorrected.
I have this baby and my Logitech mouse connected via Bluetooth - this seems to be the way to go to prevent conflicts between wireless devices - what appears to be behind the weird typing errors so many note here and for similar devices.
He loved it and it matches his bedroom colour scheme perfectly. It keeps his snacks and water nice and cold and doesn’t make an awful noise.
So easy to use and very good quality.
SIZE
i think most people are used to a membrane keyboard that has all of the keys (full) so the 99 will feel familiar and more convenient.
SOUND
in terms of sound, i think it is really good for a stock board! the stabilizers are all really nice and the switches are thocky (for a stock board), unlike some other budget boards ive tried over the years.
CONNECTION
it allows for usb, dongle, and bluetooth connection, and has a switch to toggle between win and mac. ive heard some budget boards have trouble when it comes to switching between win and mac, but i can’t personally attest to that since i don’t use mac.
HOTSWAPPABLE
this keyboard is hotswappable, meaning the switches can be removed and replaced. this means theyre easier to mod as well! most gaming keyboards typically arent hotswappable and are much more expensive, meaning once the switch is dead, it’s dead unless you know how to remove solder. every epomaker keyboard comes with extra switches, so repairs are pretty easy!
ACCESSORIES
i like that epomaker includes the proper tool to make repairs, i’ve seen many boards that come with a keycap puller but this is the first i’ve seen with a proper switch puller. it comes with a usbc cord for connection, but if you want a prettier one, there are coiled cables as well.
this board is great for beginners, but i am personally not a fan of the size. this was my first board bigger than a tkl (tenkeyless) so i was surprised by how unwieldy it was. most people i know that arent in the hobby prefer full or 99 boards though, so it’s just up to preference. epomaker does make smaller boards, so i will be returning this one in exchange for one of those :)
1. The weight of this keyboard literally blew me away. I was really expecting it to feel light and cheap (for some reason), but it is HEAVY, so this thing will not move around on you unless you pick it up and move it. It feels expensive despite it being at a lower price point for a quality keyboard.
2. The sound of the keyboard is to die for. When I first opened it, I opened up a document just to type random letters because I was obsessed. I actually went back to some of the documents I had open that night I was testing and found that my husband had also typed a bunch of random notes to me throughout my work because he said he also loved the sound hahaha
3. The setup was very easy, seriously took me like 2 minutes.
4. I thought I would miss the volume knob on this thing, but I've actually purchased a macro-pad with a knob (I won't talk about that much since it's not about this product, but HIGHLY recommend for anyone who uses a lot of keyboard shortcuts) that I use alongside this keyboard. I figured that since that was the ONE reason I was leaning away from this product, it was worth working around, and I'm really glad I made that decision!
As someone who seriously spends at LEAST 14 hours a day using this keyboard, it is absolutely worth it.
It looks great, feels and sounds fantastic, and does everything you’d want from a keyboard. She loves the size, specifically that it includes the number pad. Not enough decent keyboards do these days. People want minimalism in everything, but the functionality of a dedicated number pad is hard to beat.
Connecting is super easy. We’re using the hardwired USB-C option, but I was able to use Bluetooth on my laptop at work while I was testing and installing the other keycaps prior to giving this as a birthday gift. She loves that it’s such a lightweight feel of typing, even noticeably so to someone without the heavy handed typing of myself, having grown up on IBM and Alps switches which allow for some decent banging.
I’m not a keyboard snob or really a deep enthusiast, but some of my friends and coworkers that care more than I do really loved it as well. It’s a crowd pleaser, and that wonderful little subdued THOK on each tap is soothing as foretold.
Lights look really cool.
Chills drinks and snacks extremely well.
Easy to use and set up.
Instructions an easy read, just make sure you use the right power supply.
Once plugged into a USB port of a PlayStation it was working fine. Also works with PC USB points so if you're having difficulties with yours be sure your power is right!
